GerMorphIT: Exploring German Morphology with Information Theory

In this collaboration we explore the use of relative entropy measures to compare the complexity of adjectival paradigms in Middle High German and New High German.

Project History

Following the Linguistic Society of America’s 2011 Summer Institute, Cindy and I started looking to make a contribution at the intersection of information theory and historical linguistics. Together with Rachel Steindel Burdin, Rory Turnbull, and Tsz-him Tsui, we presented some of our initial thoughts at GLAC in 2013 (handout available as a PDF). The next year we presented a poster at the LSA in Minneapolis.
